I just LOVE my family!!
Blog Entry 13
Mom says she hasn’t had time to sit down and take dictation for my blog over the past few weeks because she’s been busy. But she’s always busy, and has always found time to record the valuable things I have to say.
I know the real reason she wouldn’t do it: she’s been mad at me. How could anyone be angry with a dog as cute as moi, you ask? It defies belief, but there you have it.
However, there have been a couple of incidents—actually three—when I might have upset her.
Spare Gloves Would Come in Handy!
Mom wore her brand new, white show gloves to a dressage competition, and carefully washed them as soon as she got back. They looked pristine, as if she’d never had them on. She then put them on the edge of the bath tub to dry out.
When she got in the shower, I jumped on the side of the bath. Mom did ask, “What are you doing?” (Un)fortunately she couldn’t see that I was chewing her clean white gloves until she’d got out of the shower and it was too late to stop me doing any damage.
She wasn’t pleased when she saw the holes.
Glass tables are great for cooling down in this hot weather - at least Mom can't get at me about chewing stuff up here!
Then she took Tuffy and me on a walk along the private road that leads past our house to a couple more homes. It’s the perfect length—just long enough to stretch our legs and let us play off the leash and be pleasantly tired by the time we get back to the house.
It was early in the morning: I was busy bugging Tuffy, who was bugging me back, when a neighbor drove past on his way to work. For the first time ever, I decided to chase his car and Tuffy joined me. Mom called, but this was way too much fun!
The driver stopped, turned around and drove up to Mom. For some reason she apologized to the man. To make him like me, I jumped up and put my paws on his door. It didn’t work because Mom got mad at me, and apologized even more to the man.
She held onto our collars until he was out of sight, and told us both off.
We haven’t been out on that road again since. Which is a pity, because I really enjoyed that chase!
Here's my big brother Tuffy with Ross in the MG.
(Phew! That's taken some of the attention off me!)
Then last night we were snuggling down in bed, and I got nervous because of the constant lightning outside. It took a long time for the real thunderstorm to arrive, so I was licking and drooling on the bed cover. I didn’t realize just how much drool had gone out of me, until Mom felt the damp sheets and mattress.
At first she thought I may have peed on the bed. I mean, really! I haven’t done that since I was three months old!
She smelled and smelled the wet patch and glared at me. I gave her my best hurt look until she understood that it wasn’t dog pee.
But she had to take off the sheets and remake the bed with clean ones (at 11:30 p.m.). I don’t think she was very happy.
We snuggled down again, but I couldn’t get comfortable. When I jumped off the bed Mom understood that I needed to go outside. It was now midnight. I don’t think she was very happy about that, either.
I’m Cute Again
At last we snuggled down for real, and it was comforting to have Mom next to me when the storm broke a couple of hours later. She made me feel safe and protected against the flashes of lightning and the loud claps of thunder.
By this morning I think she loved me again, because she took a couple of photos of me in bed and told me how adorable I am.
Now that’s more like it!
